Penny Shortages
What can you do with DTS to manage unplanned cash challenges.
Earlier this year, an Executive Order directed the U.S. Mint to end production due to rising manufacturing costs. According to the U.S. Treasury, production will officially cease in early 2026. Many customers are already experiencing diminished penny availability.
As always, we at DTS want to make managing cash easier, so here's how you can use DTS to minimize penny issues. To restrict your stores from ordering pennies, you can do so by updating the Change Order template preferences in DTS. This is also available for Recurring Change Orders.
This can be accessed via Admin -> Change Order Management -> Preferences. When on the Change Order Preference page, edit any templates assigned to locations by deselecting the "Allow Ordering Pennies" option. This will prevent selected locations from being able to order pennies.
The Message Center is available at any time to communicate regarding penny availability as needed. Please let us know if you have any questions on that process.
Finally, as penny availability diminishes, many banks are choosing to restrict penny ordering in DTS. If you see this change and have further questions regarding penny availability, you may reach out to your bank directly.
